Agile Learning Design:

A Practical Perspective

Friday, March 18, 2016

Agile methodologies have been used in software development for years. Now learning designers are seeing its benefits for our field. Agile development values working solutions over comprehensive documentation and responding to change over following a plan. Stop trying to hold stakeholders and SMEs to the plan, and instead learn how to create a flexible structure within which you can respond quickly to changing requirements.

After attending this session, you'll be able to:

  • Describe the basic tenets of agile development.
  • Identify potential challenges to agile development in instructional design.
  • Describe how agile projects have just as sound instructional design methodologies as traditional ADDIE methods.
  • Implement at least 2 practical suggestions to be more agile in your instructional design.

Session Facilitator: Jennifer Bertram

Jennifer Bertram is the Director of Instructional Design at Bottom-Line Performance. As Director of ID, she is responsible for researching and implementing new ID approaches within the organization, including agile development. Additionally, she provides coaching support to the agile services teams at BLP. Jennifer has significant experience in instructional design, project management, and business solutions. Jennifer often manages large, curriculum projects at BLP. Prior to working with BLP, Jennifer was the Training Manager at public accounting firm and also worked for five years at a large credit union.
